2 SHOOTING STARS

In the past week two of the many celebrated performers that Tricia and I have had the pleasure of working with, and presenting have left this mortal coil.

The first was HELEN REDDY who we toured in the International Women’s Year, 1975. She was at a peak with the hit song “I Am Woman” which she wrote, and which became the anthem of the women’s movement.

The concerts in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland were sellouts with a heavily-skewed female audience. Her husband/manager at the time, Jeff Wald, was something else in that on the flight over from Sydney to Christchurch he fired the support act, Peter Allen; but that’s another story.

Secondly the wonderful actor, best known to TV viewers from Z Cars FRANK WINDSOR who toured as the Theatre Manager.

in our New Zealand season of Ken Hill’s Original Phantom Of The Opera in 1993.

Apart from his television persona he was an accomplished, incisive and hilarious comic stage actor, having appeared in several Tom Stoppard plays in London’s West End. He was witty and kindly and fun to be with socially.

I wonder if both will shine in the theatrical firmament now?
