There have been numerous movies that have transitioned to the musical theatre stage over the past few years, with varying degrees of success. The most recent, which Tricia and I had the pleasure of seeing early in its UK tour, in Southampton, is FLASHDANCE.

Set in Pittsburgh, USA, it is based on the Paramount Picture of 18-year-old Alex, a welder in the steel mills by day, and a 'flashdancer' by night, whose dream is to study at a prestigious Dance Academy.

Songs include "Maniac", "Gloria", "I Love Rock 'n Roll" and, of course "What A Feeling". Plenty of raw energy and breathtaking choreography from Arlene Phillips, the woman who is also directing and choreographing STARLIGHT EXPRESS for us. Terrific.
